The Bizarre Phobia You Have Never Heard Of

Hi There! I would like to share something which came to my knowledge just few days back. Someone very close to me was sitting next to me on the sofa and was surfing the internet. And suddenly she yelled and hid her face with both hands. The sudden yell, startled me and I looked at her, thinking what on earth is wrong with her. My first reaction was to have a look at the window which was open in her laptop. There was a small box advertisement about some skin ailment and its cure. The picture was surly not pleasant, but definitely nothing to be scared of. One could see deep holes in the skin, clustered together and it was kind of creepy.

I gently removed her hands from the face and asked her what the reason of such a strong reaction is. I could see that there were goose bumps all over her body and she was kind of shaky. I pulled up the throw blanket to make her feel warm and cozy. Now, why this girl with such a balanced personality could get anxious with a mere unpleasant image was beyond my understanding.

I gave her a glass of water and when she was little calm asked her what was wrong with her. What she told me was something absolutely new for me. She said that once earlier also she had seen this kind of image in the internet and she had the same kind of reaction then as well. She said I find such things very creepy and just one look at such things makes me shudder, feel itchy and physically sick.

I got concerned after hearing this and tried to find what this is all about. After some research, I got to know that this is a kind of phobia called TRYPOPHOBIA which means fear of holes!

“Not all holes, just tiny holes in asymmetrical clusters, often times with things in them can trigger this fear”. In such cases fear and disgust goes hand in hand. And the strange thing is that people suffering from this phobia are growing in number these days.

Now the question is how to deal with this kind of fear. Maybe analyzing your own thoughts and thinking with rational mind might help to get over it. Meditation is also a very good tool for mind and thought control.

I look forward to ideas that can help in getting rid of this phobia. Please share your thoughts as they would be very useful.

( I have not added the images purposely, they may not be pleasant for many)

Cheers!
